Transport Coordinator – Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan

MGF are currently seeking to recruit a Transport Coordinator to join the Operations team at our Head Office in Ashton-in-Makerfield.

MGF is a privately owned independent company specialising in the design, manufacture, hire and sale of excavation support systems for the civil engineering, utilities and construction industries. We manufacture our own equipment, operate our own transport fleet and importantly have an in-house engineering department who produce design solutions to meet customers’ requirements and have an established reputation of providing total service to our customers.

Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will assist with the running of our fleet of 60+ commercial vehicles and 60+ company cars, over 11 locations, ensuring compliance, and that the department runs efficiently and effectively subject to legislation, Company regulations and procedures.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the service and maintenance of Fleet to comply with all current and incoming legislation
  • Management of all vehicles and driver documentation, both legal and internal, ensuring compliance with current and incoming legislation and MGF Policy
  • Assisting the Transport Manager in travelling to MGF nationwide depots to audit and implement systems and documentation to ensure compliance
  • Assisting the Transport Manager to manage costs and budgets including monitoring of expenditure such as maintenance, fuel and tyres
  • To carry out general purchasing duties for the Transport Manager
  • To negotiate with suppliers
  • General administration support to the department including filing, scanning, photocopying and research
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries and routine correspondence

Ideally you should have:

  • 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry
  • Experience dealing with DVSA
  • up to date knowledge of applicable legislation
  • National Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), or willing to work towards

The ideal candidate will work to often tight deadlines so must be able to prioritise tasks and show influencing, persuasion and negotiation skills. You should also be a good communicator to ensure exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers.
