SHEQ Advisor – Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan

Due to continued business growth we are looking for an experienced SHEQ Advisor, with particular focus on Quality, to join our Safety, Health, Environment and Quality team.

Established for over 35 years, MGF is a market leader in the design, manufacture, hire and sale of excavation support systems for the civil engineering, utilities and construction industries. We manufacture our own equipment, operate our own transport fleet and importantly have an in-house engineering department who produce design solutions to meet customers’ requirements.

Employing over 390 staff, we operate nationally from 10 locations and have an established reputation of providing total service to our customers.

Over the past few years MGF has undertaken substantial investment in improving our business processes, including our Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Management Systems. We are accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

We are now seeking a SHEQ Advisor to join the SHEQ team to assist in the development and implementation of Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and Business Improvement Programmes across the business, ensuring SHEQ management systems are maintained and continually improved.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide SHEQ assistance across all areas of the business responding to queries & issues
  • Support the Quality Manager with providing advice to the Business on SHEQ requirements
  • Continually improve the company’s SHEQ Management System
  • Propose initiatives for improvement within MGF and assist in the coordination of business improvement projects
  • Assist the SHEQ Management team with the co-ordination and completion of internal and external audits in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 (with transition to ISO 45001 in 2020)
  • Work with operational teams to identify and promote opportunities to improve business processes and produce business case reports for review and sanction by senior management
  • Ensure that the Company maintains its accreditations providing the primary interface with external auditors ensuring prompt response to audit findings
  • Conduct depot visits and inspections

The SHEQ Advisor will proactively work jointly with all departments and colleagues across the range of functions to ensure we deliver the highest level of customer service on a consistent basis and liaise as necessary with statutory authorities and other organisations. As a team player you will be a good communicator with strong organisational skills and the flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of assignments.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience of working in a Quality role, preferably in the Construction, Manufacturing or Plant Hire Industry, and have a sound working knowledge of the relevant standards, statutory requirements and industry guidance. You should also have a Quality Management qualification or similar together with a NEBOSH certificate.
