Senior CAD Technician – Astley, Manchester

Providing CAD Design and Technical support to a busy design/sales team based at our Design Office, in Astley, Manchester. The successful candidate will be provided with full training in the use of MGF Products and Systems.

The role involves the production of drawings of temporary ground support schemes in order to secure work by providing the best solution to contractors ensuring safe working environments are provided for their teams.

We have a dynamic team of over 30 Engineers/Technicians from a variety of backgrounds ensuring we have the experience and skills required to provide cost effective solutions. The role is ideally suited to someone with approximately two years’ experience at technical drawing within the Civil Engineering Industry.


The successful candidate will be provided with full training in the use of MGF Products and Systems.

In the Design Department you will report directly to a Design Manager and have responsibility for:-

  • Producing AUTOCAD LT integrated design and installation drawings in support of Engineers,
  • Producing general arrangement drawings for excavations,
  • Producing workshop manufacturing/fabrication drawings,
  • Providing assistance to Marketing and Operations with CAD images and installation guides,
  • Becoming familiar with design software, installation guides, national hire fleet components and the manufacturing process.
  • Managing a team of Technicians.

Temporary works design requires a unique skillset and therefore we recruit people from both consulting and contracting backgrounds, creating a working environment where you can thrive off each other in order to satisfy our customer’s needs. Below are some of the key attributes that will aid you in your new role at MGF.


  • Qualification in Construction/ Civil/ Structural Engineering required (minimum level BTEC, working towards HNC/HND),
  • 4 years previous ‘Civils’ experience
  • A professional manner with excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings
  • Technical drawing ability
  • Proficient use of AutoCAD


  • Experience of groundworks or temporary works
  • Experience in BIM technologies/Revit and SketchUp
  • Construction site experience
  • Willingness to learn and take up new challenges
  • Willingness to travel to regional depots/sites to attend meetings
  • Understanding of construction sequences
  • Ambition to join a professional Institution (ICE / IStructE – EngTech)
