Depot Operations Manager – Durham

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated individual to join a highly successful and growing Company. MGF are now recruiting for a Depot Operations Manager for our depot in Durham.

The role:

As Depot Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Regional Manager (West Lothian & North East) and will have full responsibility for the Health, Safety and Quality of all depot operations whilst ensuring effective running and profitable growth of all business controlled from the depot. This includes managing the availability and quality of equipment to support our core shoring activities, plus larssen rentals, safety products and Capital Sales. This responsibility extends to all depot costs, revenues, and liabilities, in addition to all employee and H&S matters.

The role will involve:-

  • Operational management of all facets of the depot including hire desk, stock, yard and transport fleet, including managing all depot costs and expenditure.
  • Ensuring customer enquiries and orders are sourced, fulfilled and provided by the Depot and delivered/ collected on time, to the highest standard.
  • Lead the depot in the growth of existing business and establishing new areas of business.
  • Ensuring all administration standards are met and constantly strive to improve efficiencies and procedures where possible.
  • Responsibility for effective implementation of the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Management procedures within the depot.
  • Development of staff and infrastructure resources in line with the Company plans for growth and expansion.

Established in 1981, MGF is a market leader in the design, manufacture, hire and sale of excavation support systems for the civil engineering and building industries. Our business is based on providing technical solutions to meet customer needs. MGF’s approach is to provide a one-stop shop for our customers, who range from small locally based sub-contractors to major multi-national contracting organisations.

We manufacture our own equipment, operate our own transport fleet and importantly have an in-house engineering department who produce design solutions to meet customers’ requirements.

Employing over 390 staff, we operate nationally from 11 locations and have an established reputation of providing total service to our customers.

Who we want:-

This exciting position requires that candidates should possess exceptional leadership skills. The position would suit a Contracts Manager with civils’ construction experience or alternatively an experienced manager from the plant hire sector with a knowledge and understanding of the construction/shoring industry. Consideration will also be given to less experienced candidates who are motivated to achieve results in a challenging environment, who can grow with the business.

Candidates should also possess:-

  • A high level of IT literacy, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to monitor resources and deliver results.

Ideally you should also have:-

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
  • HND in Construction or equivalent.
