Depot Foreman – Livingston

With continued growth of our business we are looking to recruit a team for our newest depot, based at Houstoun Industrial Estate, Livingston.

Established in 1981, MGF is a market leader in the design, manufacture, hire and sale of excavation support systems for the civil engineering, utilities and construction industries. We manufacture our own equipment, operate our own transport fleet and importantly have an in-house engineering department who produce design solutions to meet customers’ requirements.

Employing over 390 staff, we operate nationally from 11 locations and have an established reputation of providing total service to our customers. We are now looking to extend that service with our first depot based in Scotland and have a number of exciting opportunities available including a Depot Foreman.

The role:

As Depot Foreman you will have a pivotal role in the depot, ensuring the safe running of the depot and yard. You will be responsible for managing yard and workshop activities and operations, ensuring the depot runs efficiently and effectively subject to legislation, Company regulations and procedures.

The role will involve:

  • Organising and managing yard and workshop personnel, including the drivers, ensuring they work efficiently, effectively and safely
  • Maintaining the standard and quality of all the kit in the depot, including all mechanical plant, FLTs, HGVs, vans, etc. Ensuring the presentation, testing and maintenance of equipment, plant and infrastructure is sustained
  • Maintaining and continuing the upkeep of yard premises and other working environments within the depot
  • Prioritising work to meet order requirements, liaising with team members and other depots to ensure customer orders are satisfied
  • Overseeing the storage, loading and despatch of equipment
  • Stock control and management, including organising stock takes
  • Assessing damages and advising accordingly
  • Managing all yard costs and expenditure, ensuring accurate recording of these
  • Complying with all statutory requirements, Company policies and legislation and ensuring your team do likewise
  • Conducting Tool Box Talks and training sessions as appropriate

Ideally you should have:

  • People skills with proven ability in a supervisory capacity to manage and motivate staff
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Strong IT skills (MS Word, Excel and proprietary database systems)
  • Health and Safety knowledge with the ability to brief teams in safe working practices, IOSH Managing Safely Qualification (or equivalent) is preferable
  • A technical background with the ability to read engineering drawings, experience within a construction/ groundworks environment is preferable
  • A HNC in Construction (or equivalent) would be an advantage but not essential
