Industry Best Practice

Construction is recognised as one of the most dangerous industries to work in within the UK. Every year between 40 and 80 Construction workers are killed on construction sites with 500 to 800 seriously injured. Excavations are perceived as being particularly hazardous within the Construction site and in 2010/11, 8 fatalities occurred in unsupported excavations in the UK within a 6 month period.

Excavation Safety

MGF are committed to improving excavation safety and are fully aware of our obligations under the CDM Regulations:2007. We take a pro-active approach to developing and promoting industry best practice through experience, research, innovation and training. We are members of the Shoring Technology Interest Group (STIG) and Training on Plant in Construction (TOPIC), sub-groups of the CPA and are key contributors to developing and maintaining technical standards. MGF were co-authors of ‘Safety in Shoring: The Proprietary Shoring & Piling Equipment Manual’ produced by the CPA in 2006. More recently we have become members of the Temporary Works Forum (TWF) and Strategic Forum for Construction (Plant Safety) and have worked closely with the HSE promoting best practice in Earthworks for the UK.
